Recently Crunchyroll had their voting open for anime awards and the results are in. There are a lot of categories so I will give my own quick opinion of each category. This award is based on subscriber votes which can definitely skew results but also can be useful information to what a selection of people like. I will list the category, nominations, winners and then my opinions. After the nomination I will also list a brief opinion.
Anime of the Year
Carole & Tuesday – want to watch
Demon Slayer – watched
Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching in season 1
O Maidens in Your Savage Season – not watched
The Promised Neverland – watched
Vinland Saga – not watched
Winner is Demon Slayer. After going to a convention in Portland called Kumoricon I have no doubt that this show was popular and had to watch it. It is pretty good but I would have liked for The Promised Neverland to win this one. I have also heard a lot of really good things about Carole and Tuesday and would like to watch that.
Best Protagonist
Emma in The Promised Neverland – watched
Hyakkimaru in Dororo – not watched
Saitama in One-Punch Man Season 2 – want to watch
Senku in Dr. Stone – stopped watching
Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer – watched
Tohru Honda in Fruit Basket – watched
Winner is Senku in Dr. Stone. I like the idea of learning in anime and this show does that but I just don’t like it for some reason. I definitely would have liked Emma or Tohru to win this one.
Best Antagonist
Ai Magase in Babylon – not watched
Angela in Carole and Tuesday – want to watch
Askeladd in Vinland Saga – not watched
Garou in One-Punch Man Season 2 – want to watch
Isabella in The Promised Neverland – watched
Overhaul in My Hero Academia Season 4 – watched
Winner is Isabella in The Promised Neverland. This one was unexpected for me but now looking at the nominations, could have been the right choice. I’m not complaining with this one.
Best Boy
Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind – want to watch
Hyakkimaru in Dororo – not watched
Kanata Hoshijima in Astra Lost in Space – not watched
Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama in Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching in Season 1
Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer – watched
Naruzou Machi in How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift? – not watched
Winner is Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer. Can’t really say much about this category as I have not seen many of these shows.
Best Girl
Carole in Carole & Tuesday – want to watch
Chika Fujiwari in Kaguya-sama: Love is War – stopped watching
Emma in The Promised Neverland – watched
Kohaku in Dr. Stone – stopped watching
Nezuko Kamado in Demon Slayer – watched
Raphtalia in The Rising of the Shield Hero – watched
Winner is Raphtalia in the Rising of the Shield Hero. I have seen most of these shows and Raphtalia is a solid choice but I would have liked Emma to win.
Best Director
Tetsuro Araki for Attack on Titan Season 3 – stopped watching Season 1
Kiyotaka Suzuki for Babylon – not watched
Shinichiro Watanabe and Motonobu Hori for Carole & Tuesday – want to watch
Yuzuru Tachikawa for Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching Season 1
Kunihiko Ikuhara for Sarazanmai – not watched
Shuhei Yabuta for Vinland Saga – not watched
Winner is Tetsuro Araki for Attack on Titan Season 3. While this show seemed interesting, I just found too many problems with the world that just did not make any sense. It just seemed like they spent no time on world building and just wanted to show action and blood.
Best Animation
Demon Slayer – watched
Attack on Titan Season 3 – stopped watching in Season 1
Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching in Season 1
Sarazanmai – not watched
Vinland Saga – not watched
Fate/Grand Order – want to watch
Winner is Mob Psycho 100 II. I know a lot of people liked Season 1 but I stopped watching very early and I am probably in the minority.
Best Character Design
Tsunenori Saito, Original Character Design by Eisaku Kubonouchi for Carole and Tuesday – want to watch
Satoshi Iwataki, Original Character Design by Hiroyuki Asada for Dororo – not watched
Yuko Iwasa for Dr. Stone – stopped watching
Yuko Yahiro, Original Character Design by Aka Akasaka for Kaguya-sama: Love is War – stopped watching
Kayoko Ishikawa, Original Character Design by Niggy for Sarazanmai – not watched

Winner is Satoshi Iwataki, Original Character Design by Hiroyuki Asada for Dororo.
Best Score
Hiroyuki Sawano for Attack on Titan Season 3 – stopped watching Season 1
Mocky for Carole and Tuesday – want to watch
Go Shiina and Yuki Kajiura for Demon Slayer – watched
Tatsuya Kato, Hiroaki Tsutsumi and Yuki Kanesaka for Dr. Stone – stopped watching
Yugo Kanno for JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: Golden Wind – want to watch
Kevin Penkin for The Rising of the Shield Hero – watched
Winner is Mocky for Carole and Tuesday.
Best Fight Scene
Emperor Crimson vs. Metallic in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind – want to watch
Levi vs. Beast Titan in Attack on Titan Season 3 – stopped watching Season 1
Mob vs. Toichiro in Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching Season 1
Tanjiro and Nezuko vs. Rui in Demon Slayer – watched
Thorfinn vs. Thorkell in Vinland Saga – not watched
Ushiwakamaru vs. Tiamat in Fate/Grand Order – want to watch
Winner is Tanjiro and Nezuko vs. Rui in Demon Slayer. This one is interesting as I don’t think this was the best fight in the show and there must have been a better fight in other shows but this one won so I’m a bit confused on this one.
Best Couple
Baki Hanma and Kozue Matsumoto in Baki – not watched
Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Sirogane in Kaguya-sama: Love is War – stopped watching
Mafuyu Sato and Ritsuka Uenoyama in Given – watched
Reo and Mabu in Sarazanmai – not watched
Rika Zonazaki and Shun Amagi in O Maidens in Your Savage Season – not watched
Ymir and Historia in Attack on Titan Season 3 – stopped watching Season 1
Winner is Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Sirogane in Kaguya-sama: Love is War. In the past I would have though that Mafuyu Sato and Ritsuka Uenoyama would have won as I feel that it was a better plot and script. But, I’m also kind of glad that another show won and while I did have an issue with the plot of Kaguya-sama: Love is War it was very close for me to be watchable and teetering on the brink of potentially really good. Maybe I might give this another try.
Best Performance by a Voice Actor (Japanese)
Yuichi Nakamura as Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind – want to watch
Yukino Satsuki as Ai Magase in Babylon – not watched
Yuuko Kaida as Isabella in The Promised Neverland – watched
Mamoru Miyano as Reo in Sarazanmai – not watched
Yusuke Kobayashi as Senku in Dr. Stone – stopped watching
Saori Hayami as Shinobu Kocho in Demon Slayer – watched
Winner is Yuichi Nakamura as Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind. While I have not seen this show, I would have liked Saori Hayami as Shinobu Kocho in Demon Slayer to win. She has such a distinct voice and I have heard this vocie before. I also think that she brought Shinobu Kocho to life and very much matches her show personality.
Best Performance by a Voice Actor (English)
Faye Mata as Aqua in Konosuba – watched
Billy Kametz as Naofumi in The Rising of the Shield Hero – watched
Laura Bailey as Tohru Honda in Fruits Basket – watched
Kyle McCarley as Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama in Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching in Season 1
Casey Mongillo as Shinji Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion – not watched
Erica Mendez as Retsuko in Aggretsuko – not watched
Winner is Billy Kametz as Naofumi in The Rising of the Shield Hero. I will say that I try and watch most shows in subs and not dubs so in Japanese. Dragon Ball is one of the few shows I can think of that I want to watch the dub. The only person I have heard of here is Erica Mendez so I don’t have a real opinion here. Watching The Rising of the Shield Hero, I do know that Naofumi goes through a lot so he would need a good voice actor.
Best Comedy
Aggretsuko – not watched
How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift? – not watched
Isekai Quartet – not watched
Kaguya-sama: Love is War – stopped watching
Sarazanmai – not watched
My Roommate is a Cat – not watched
Winner is Kaguya-sama: Love is War. I want to try this again but the problem is that comedy is my least favorite genre as you can see from how many of the nominations I’ve seen.
Best Fantasy
Demon Slayer – watched
Sarazanmai – not watched
Ascendance of a Bookworm – stopped watching
Attack on Titan Season 3 – stopped watching Season 1
The Promised Neverland – watched
Astra Lost in Space – not watched
Winner is The Promised Neverland. While I’m not complaining that The Promised Neverland won best fantasy I feel like Demon Slayer falls into this category a bit better and should have taken this one.
Best Drama
Stars Align – not watched
Carole & Tuesday – want to watch
The Promised Neverland – watched
Fruits Basket – watched
Vinland Saga – not watched
Babylon – not watched
Winner is Vinland Saga. While I have not seen Vinland Saga I feel that The Promised Neverland should have taken this one.
Best Opening Sequence
Kiss Me in Carole & Tuesday – want to watch
Touch Off in The Promised Neverland – watched
99.9 in Mob Psycho 100 II – stopped watching Season 1
Kawaki wo Ameku in Domestic Girlfriend – stopped watching
Inferno in Fire Force – watched
Mukanjyo in Vinland Saga – not watched
Winner is 99.9 in Mob Psycho 100 II. No offense to the winner but Touch Off in The Promised Neverland was pretty good and Inferno in Fire Force should have easily have walked away with this award.
Best Ending Sequence
Hold Me Now in Carole & Tuesday – want to watch
Chikatto Chika Chikaa in Kaguya-sama: Love is War – stopped watching
Torches in Vinland Saga – not watched
Stand By Me in Sarazanmai – not watched
Veil in Fire Force – watched
Sayonara Gokko in Dororo – not watched
Winner is Chikatto Chika Chikaa in Kaguya-sama: Love is War. I though that Veil in Fire Force was really good and should have won this one.
That was a lot of awards! Hopefully you might find some new shows you haven’t seen yet. I know I have found a few that I have put on my to watch list. Do you agree or disagree with any of these awards. Comment below.
