Fall is here and things are definitely starting to open up. I feel like I am starting to meet up with other vaccinated people and go out and do things that I might not have done in the past few months. That of course leaves me with less time but I’ve always got time for anime.
I am going to list the Crunchyroll titles of the Fall season in the category they are listed under and give a short thought.
New Simulcasts
86 EIGHTY-SIX
Studio: A-1 Pictures
The battles of Lena and the Eighty-Six continue as they try to find a safe-haven in Season 2 of 86 EIGHTY-SIX.
The first season was really good and I am pretty hyped for the next season of this.
–This second season was good. The show went in a strange direction but overall everything that was good about the first season mostly continued in the second. The music, sound and visuals were all amazing. The plot was a bit strange but ok which is why I think the first season was better.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus
Studio: Sola Digital Arts
Taking place in Los Angeles 2032, a new story in the Blade Runner universe unfolds in BLADE RUNNER: BLACK LOTUS.
This looks pretty good and I am excited to check this one out. I thought this already came out but perhaps it was on another platform or just some really early previews.
–This was a little strange in the beginning but ultimately this show captured me and may be one of the best of the Fall 2021 series. The opening music is great and I really like how each ending music is different. I’m most surprised that I didn’t notice any clipping which I see a lot in these 3D animations. Except for one really short scene of showing black lotus feet in the end it was all really good. And that was not really a clipping problem but a 3D detail problem which I get.
BUILD-DIVIDE -#000000- CODE BLACK
Studio: Liden Films
In Shin-Kyoto, people battle to become the new governing lord in a battle of intense card games!
I like a lot of the card game shows so I’ll check it out.
–Stopped watching this one. If I remember the art was not great and I don’t like the stereotypical character personality that is so arrogant that say you should just give up before the battle even begins and they haven’t shown what they can do.
CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD OVERDRESS
Studio: Kinema Citrus
Get ready for more card battles with Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress, with character designs by CLAMP!
I haven’t seen any of this so will not start here.
–Did not watch.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc
Studio: ufotable
Tanjiro and his comrades fight fierce demons in a new mission within the Yoshiwara Entertainment District!
Demon Slayer is a pretty good show. This arc is suppose to air in December so not sure if it is a Fall or Winter show. I’ll watch it either way.
–This series is still going on so it’s kind of a Fall/Winter show. I like most of it so far.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train Arc
Studio: ufotable
A brand new seven-episode series adapting the Mugen Train arc, including a never-before-seen episode featuring Rengoku!
I was able to see the movie when it released on Crunchyroll and it was good but not sure what they hype was about. I’ll definately watch it and Rengoku is a character I would like to learn more about.
–This was basically the movie with one episode in front of the movie about Rengoku. The episode was actually pretty good as it explained a bit more about Rengoku. After watching the movie before this I really didn’t even know who Rengoku was as he was in it for probably less then 5 mins of screen time.
Digimon Ghost Game
Studio: Toei Animation
A brand new Digimon story is arriving, this time with ghosts and holograms entering the mix!
I don’t really want to watch this one.
–Did not watch.
GANBARE DOUKICHAN
Studio: AtelierPontdarc
From the creator of Miru Tights comes a new anime about three coworkers and their everyday lives.
This what looks to be slice of life looks good. I’ll give it a try.
–Did not get around to this one but I wanted to.
High Guardian Spice
Studio: Crunchyroll Studios
Four fierce girls join High Guardian Academy to become heroes and protect the world from unknown threats!
Not going to watch this one.
–Did not watch.
KAGI-NADO
Studio: Liden Films Kyoto Studio
Probably not.
–Did not watch.
Let’s Make a Mug Too 2
Studio: Nippon Animation
Himeno and the Tajimi City pottery club set out to make even more fantastic pottery in new episodes of Let’s Make a Mug Too!
The first season was really good and I’m excited for season 2.
This was a good slice of life show. What I really like most about this show is that after the anime, there is about another 7 min episode that they take the voice actors to do different things related to the show. This season was more about finding themselves and not really about pottery which is why I put the first season above this one.
Muv-Luv Alternative
Studio: Flagship Line, Yumeta Company, Graphinica
The Muv-Luv story continues as the Tactical Surface Fighters continue the fight against the extraterrestrial species BETA.
Probably not.
–Did not watch this show.
Platinum End
Studio: Signal.MD
From the creators of Death Note, a young boy must fight against 12 other humans to become the next god of the world!
I can’t say I really like Death Note but I have to give this one a try as Death Note is really popular with probably the majority.
–I might have watched one or two episodes and to me was basically another Death Note which I didn’t like.
POP TEAM EPIC REPEAT
Studio: Kamikaze Douga
Probably not.
–Did not watch this show.
Restaurant to Another World 2
Studio: OLM
The Western Restaurant Nekoya welcomes you for another course in Restaurant to Another World 2!
Another great show I am excited that got a season two. Good food is always good.
–I always got excited when this show came on and this always made me hungry. One thing I was always wondering was that there were a lot of guests in his restaurant in the later episodes who ordered different things and the chef was just one person. How did he make all that food?
SAKUGAN
Studio: Satelight
A father and daughter team up to pilot their powerful mech to fight monsters and explore the mysteries of the “Labyrinth”!
Normally don’t like mech shows but there are a few here and there that pop up and surprise me. I’ll probably check it out.
–I think this show had the best OP and ED of the season. The OP music was really good and the ED music was good especially compared with the visual which I really liked. I think the show was ok but a bit strange. I think it would have been a bit better at times but I could definitely tell they ran out of budget or time by reusing the same clips or using stills.
takt op.Destiny
Studio: MAPPA, Madhouse
Magic users named Conductors team up with magical girls and use classical music to defeat monsters invading earth!
Interesting plot tag line. I might give this a try.
–This was definitely a good show. There were a few thing that were strange but overall I was waiting for the next episode.
Tawawa on Monday 2
Studio: Yokohama Animation Lab
A salaryman and a high school girl become friends as they ride the train together every Monday.
Can’t tell if this is part two. Do I need part one first.
–Saw a few episodes of Tawawa on Monday, the first series but didn’t finish it.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride OAD
Studio: Studio Kafka
A new story in Chise’s journey is told in the next special for The Ancient Magus’ Bride series.
This show had it’s moments and I would be ok to check this one out.
–I didn’t see when this came out if it did at all. I would watch it.
The Faraway Paladin
Studio: Children’s Playground Entertainment
A young child raised by three undead ventures out to learn more about the world and become a famed Paladin.
This tag line sounds good. I’ll watch it.
–This was a great spin on the isekai genre along with a really good plot line and characters. Still another show with an OP main but it was still good and was waiting to see the next episode.
The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made
Studio: Hotline
After eating the Fruits of Evolution, one high school student and a gorilla’s life will be changed forever!
Not super sold on this one. Maybe.
–It was ok. I think I am really tired of watching isekai as they are all basically the same show. Then this show had forgettable characters who all looked the same.
The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window
Studio: Zero-G
A bookstore clerk who can see ghosts teams up with an exorcist to solve bizarre mysteries they encounter.
Maybe…
–Did not watch this show.
The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat
Studio: SILVER LINK., Studio Palette
A legendary assassin is reincarnated in another world, using his modern knowledge to become an even greater soldier!
Maybe…
–This was actually really good. Another isekai with a really good spin on it. The OP was also really good and was a top contender for favorite OP’s in the Fall 2021 line. I’m excited to see where this show goes as the main plot did not end.
World Trigger Season 3
Studio: Toei Animation
New enemies draw near as the Border agents prepare for the fight in the third season of World Trigger!
Haven’t seen the first one.
–Did not watch this show.
Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon – The Second Act
Studio: Sunrise
The sequel to the world-famous feudal fairy tale continues in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon – The Second Act!
Yashahime was pretty good. I’ll keep watching.
–I think The Second Act is where Yashahime should have started. In season one, I basically had not idea what was going on. This explained a lot of the holes.
Continuing Simulcasts
BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS
Studio: Studio Pierrot
Boruto continues his adventures to become the ultimate ninja with Team 7 and all your favorite ninja from the Hidden Leaf Village!
Pass.
–Did not watch this show.
CASE CLOSED
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Ace teen detective Shinichi Kudo solves cases after becoming trapped in the body of a ten-year-old.
If I get around to it.
–Did not watch this show.
DRAGON QUEST THE ADVENTURE OF DAI
Studio: Toei Animation
Follow Dai and his party in their grand adventure to defeat the demon lord Hadlar!
Pass.
–Don’t want to watch this show.
Fena: Pirate Princess
Studio: Production I.G
After an orphan escapes to the high seas, she takes her place as captain of a pirate crew for a swashbuckling adventure!
Art work and story were solid in season one. I want more Fena.
–Did this show continue? I don’t remember.
KIYO IN KYOTO: FROM THE MAIKO HOUSE
Studio: J.C.Staff
Two girls chase after their dreams in the ancient capital in this healing slice-of-life anime about an aspiring maiko and the house chef!
What an amazing show.
–Always ready to see more Kiyo in Kyoto but I think it comes out once a month.
ONE PIECE
Studio: Toei Animation
Luffy and the Straw Hats continue their adventures in Wano and fight against the powerful Emperors!
One Piece is killing it! Let’s Go!
–This is such a great show!
THE AQUATOPE ON WHITE SAND
Studio: P.A. Works
One former idol goes to Okinawa and finds a new life helping a struggling aquarium from shutting down.
I really like the story progression.
–This was ok but season one was better.
THE GREAT JAHY WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!
Studio: SILVER LINK
After the Dark Realm falls and the Great Jahy is defeated, she must survive in the human world and in a one-room apartment!
Turned out better then expected. I like it.
–This was a solid show. The OP was pretty good. I really like the progression of this show.
TROPICAL-ROUGE! PRECURE
Studio: Toei Animation
A brand new PreCure series is on Crunchyroll, and now it’s time to get tropical!
Haven’t seen the first one.
–Did not watch this show.
Out of 34 shows 13 I really want to watch, 5 I’ll give a try and 5 if I have time.
–Out of 34 shows I watched 15 stopped watching 3 and 4, I’m not sure I would say came out this season.
Compared to Summer 32 shows 9 I really want to watch, 7 I’ll give a try and 3 if I have time (I watched a total of 16 shows in the Fall season and 3 of those I stopped watching. Out of the 13 shows I finished 11 were pretty good shows, and 2 more shows that were mediocre and could have been skipped).
I have the most hype for One Piece, Fena: Pirate Princess, Let’s Make a Mug 2, Kiyo in Kyoto and 86.Comparing last Summer to this Fall season it looks like I am going to be watching about the same amount of shows. That is a lot. I was also able to watch Demon Salyer Mugen Train the movie. I might be going out on a limb here but I’m not sure what all the hype was about. It was definitely a good movie for sure but not sure how it passed Spirited Away.
–My favorite show of the season was Blade Runner: Black Lotus. The Faraway Paladin was also really good and I really liked listening to the OP and ED of Sakugan. Jahy was also really good. The Wolrd’s Finest Assassin grew on me and I think a lot of other liked that one as well. One Piece, Kiyo and 86 were also solid shows.
I forgot to finish watching the Gloomy Bear show. I’ve been wanting to see what JoJo’s is about so I might check that out. I also want to check out Case Closed. My re-watch that I want to see is Outlaw Star and Haikyu. This is all basically what I said for what I was going to do during the Summer. Well, I guess I got distracted.
–I finished watching the Gloomy Bear show. I think they were a minute each so very short but also very twisted brutal. I also finished re-watching Haikyu which was a solid sports show. I like sports shows as they get me motivated to do things.
