Earlier in the year, I looked at what shows for the Winter 2020 I might watch. Now that the season is almost over, Here are my thoughts, what I watched and what I liked. And believe me, this was one of the most amazing season of shows. There were so many good shows, so lets break it down. Listed below are shows and what I said before in a previous article and then follow it with what actually happened.
New Simulcasts
A Destructive God Sits Next to Me – There are a few comedy’s that I like but they are few and far between. I think I might pass on this one. — I never got around to it.
Haikyuu!: To the Top – I really enjoy the Haikyuu series and am really looking forward to this one. — This is such a great series and the build up for this show is fantastic.
In/Spectre – Looks like your standard fantasy love show. Might watch this if I have the time. — Gave this a try and stopped watching. There was no excitement to watch more.
The Island of Giant Insects – Insect sex and brutality. This look horrible and am not planning on watching this one. — Didn’t watch this one.
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! – The art looking interesting. I have heard some really good buzz about this one. It is made by Studio Science SARU who made Ping Pong the Animation. This is one that is on my to watch list as I see many references to it and many say it is really good. I want to see what this one is about. — This was an amazing show! It was not what I thought it was going to be about judging from the previews but it was great. This is basically a show about how to make anime. This theme brings Shirobako to mind. It is very different as Shirobako is about adults making anime with a process already in place, this show is about high school kids winging it with their imaginations and what they have available to them.
Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga – I feel like if I can get some education while watching some good fun anime I will do it. I want to check this one out. — Stopped watching this one. It wasn’t horrible but with so many good shows, it didn’t keep my interest.
Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It – This title seems interesting but I have also heard some good buzz around this one and I think I would like it. — Another really great show. Basically a slice of life comedy about exactly what the title says. This setting is in college which I think gives a bit more freedom to the characters in actions they can do. I tend to not like comedy but I though this was done really well and one of the few comedy’s I actually really liked.
Somali and the Forrest Spirit – This art looks amazing and the story looks really good. I want to watch this one. — This one didn’t hook me right away but was good enough to keep watching. They focus on the art and serenity of the music. The story is ok. I definitely got a lot more sucked in about six episodes in when they did a short arc that I thought was really well done.
Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story – Puella Magi Madoka is well done and it will be interesting to see this story. — For me, this Side Story seemed to break the rules that the original put in place and that bothered me so much that I stopped watching. I also feel that they did a bad job explaining what was happening if a new viewer watched this one and had not seen the first one. To confirm, I re-watched a few episodes of the first one, Puella Magi Madoka and it is just so much better.
Seton Academy: Join the Pack – I don’t have time to watch everything and so I think I might give this one a pass. — Didn’t watch this one.
Isekai Quartet 2 – I have not seen the first one. It is on my to watch list but I want to see things in order so I will pass on this one for now. — Didn’t watch this one.
Darwin’s Game – This looks like your typical Battle Royal show. Those can be hit or miss for me. Not sure about this one. — Didn’t watch this one.
22/7 (Nanabun No Nijyuuni) – I have liked most music idol group shows. I’ve never seen one go really bad as they are usually upbeat and get me in a happy mood so this looks interesting. — Didn’t watch this one.
Uchitama?! Have You Seen My Tama? – Not really sure about this one. Looks like a remake of an older show. I really liked Fruit Basket and I have not seen the original. Just not really sure about this one. — Didn’t watch this one.
Fate/Grand Order Moonlight/Lostroom – I really like the Fate series that I have seen but I haven’t played any of the games. I might watch this one if it’s in order as I’ve only seen Zero and Stay Night. — Didn’t watch this one.
Thunderbolt Fantasy Bewitching Melody of the West – Looks like a continuing show that I have not seen. The art also looks a bit odd. — Didn’t watch this one.
Re:Zero Starting Life In Another World Director’s Cut – I like Re:Zero so I might just watch this one so I am ready for the next season that is suppose to come out next season. — I didn’t realize what the Director’s Cut did until a few episodes in. They combined two episodes in one. I really like this show. The story is unique, and the story is very intertwined. They also don’t shy away from showing some crazy stuff and they can get away with it because of how the show is. Even though the new season got pushed back, I can’t wait and really excited for it.
Room Camp – This is suppose to be a spin off or continuation of Laid Back Camp which was pretty good. Looking forward to this one. — These are three minute episodes. But they are really good. And the music is awesome.
The Case Files of Jeweler Richard – This looks like some sort of mystery gay love show. I don’t have anything against that but doesn’t look like much story. Will probably pass. — Stopped watching this one. Perhaps if you liked jewelry, you might like this one but I thought it was just bogged down with a lot of nothing going on.
Asteroid In Love – This one looks like some kind of wish upon a star and your dreams come true show. Looks interesting but might give it a pass. — I think this is the biggest sleeper of the season. This is another awesome show. It is a slice of life about high school kids forming an Earth and Science club. This is very educational and entertaining at the same time. It is what I thought Dr. Stone could have been. But I think this is so much better.
Yatogame – Chan Kansatsu Nikki 2 – I have not seen the first one so I’m going to pass on this one. — Didn’t watch this one.
Continuing Simulcasts
Ace of the Diamond Act II – Missed the first one so I’ll pass. — Didn’t watch this one.
Ahiru No Sora – Another one that I did not see the first one. — Didn’t watch this one.
Black Clover – This story looks really good but I can’t stand the voice of the main character Asta. He just yells so much. I might try watching to Dub to see if it is any different. — Haven’t gone back to this one.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations – Another show that I want to watch but I really liked Naruto. The few episodes I watched of this show put me in a bad mood as it would not have been how I would have written Naruto character. — Haven’t gone back to this one.
Case Closed – I’ve heard good things about this one so I will put it on my to watch list from the start some time. — Didn’t get to this one yet.
Chihayafuru 3 – This looks interesting so it makes me want to watch this one from the start. — Chihayafuru is really good. A sports anime about the game Karuta. I knew nothing about it before watching this show. Watching season one and season two was really good. I feel like they started to focus on different things in season three that made me not as interested but it is still a good show. Just a directors choice that I didn’t like.
Fire Force – I really like Fire Force. The visuals on this one are just so good. I would definitely continue watching this one as it is becoming one of my favorite shows. However, I’ve heard that this one might not come out in the Winter 2020 season. — This new season didn’t come out yet.
Gegege No Kitaro – This will also go on my to watch list at some time. — Haven’t watched this one yet.
My Hero Academia Season 4 – Really looking forward to this one. Another show that is becoming one of my favorites. — This show is really good. There are so many character now that I think the problem is that some are getting left behind as they only have so much time to focus on certain people. I can see this new season is trying to fix that and I think they are doing a fantastic job. Really awesome show.
One Piece – My favorite show of all time. The Wano arc is definitely in my top favorite arcs and I am just so excited for One Piece right now. — The Wano arc is solidifying even more how much my favorite show is One Piece. I wavered very much in the Whole Cake Island arc but this arc is just so good.
Radiant Season 2 – I have not seen the first season. — Didn’t get around to watching this one.
SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden – Not sure what this is continuing but I’m going to pass on this for now. — Didn’t watch this one.
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-Kun – I watched an episode of this and it was odd, not what I expected and don’t plan on watching more of this show. — Didn’t watch any more of this one.
That is 14 shows I ended up watching. Out of those, 10 shows I thought were good enough to continue watching. My pick for best continuing series. I liked earlier Chihayafuru episodes, and Haikyuu was more of build up episodes. So One Piece or My Hero? I’m going to choose My Hero Academia as I’m excited for the other characters. My pick for best single season. Re:Zero is more of a re-showing. Room Camp is good but really short and hard to compare. Science is pretty good but comedy is not my favorite genre. So Eizouken or Asteroid. Both are really good and this is a hard choice. I think I am going to go with Asteroid in Love as I am feeling this at the moment. Best show of Winter 2020. Asteroid in Love vs. My Hero Academia. My pick goes to Asteroid in Love.
What a great season of shows. I don’t know when a season has been so bountiful. With all that is going on now, who know what will happen but so far, this anime season is starting off with a bang! What did you watch? Do you agree or disagree? Comment Below.
